 SERVICE MY ROLEX

 WHY SERVICE   YOUR WATCH

A typical mechanical watch has over 100 moving parts, with tolerances measured in thousands of a millimeter. There are many contact points of metal to metal and metal pivoting on jewels or (Rubies). Your watch runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Every second your watch is running these gears, wheels, pivots, springs are moving together with incredible precision. Over time the oils & greases that lubricate these parts gradually degrades & breakdown this process accelerates the wear. If left to long without proper service (CHANGING THE OIL) the ware to these tiny gears & wheels will be irreversible. Resulting in a BIG parts repair bill.

Also, the gaskets & seals dry out over time & if allowed go to long will eventually harden & crack resulting in the water resistance being compromised. We have all seen what happens to an old rubber bands over time.

Water in your watch is the single worst thing that can happen & salt water is 3x worse. If you should get water in your Rolex you must take action immediately if not sooner ! Take it to a watchmaker ASAP !

We see watches come into our shop that have not been serviced in 10 -15 years ?? I want to think their logic is: "If it ain't broke don't fix it" Unfortunately this is a very bad logic. All mechanical watches require regular service & maintenance basically you are changing the oil. So the choice is simple: "Pay me now or pay me more later". So don't let excess ware or worse yet let a water leak occur due to not servicing your watch. Look at it this way you are preserving a valuable asset that if maintained properly will LAST A LIFETIME & will continue to increase in value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our watches, services, or buying and selling process? Here are some of the most common questions we receive to help you get quick and clear answers.

Do you have a questions?
  • WHAT IF MY WATCH GETS WET ?

Water is the worst things that can happen to your Rolex. If you notice even a small amount of moisture or a foggy crystal, do not ignore it. Take immediate action and have your watch inspected by a professional watchmaker as soon as possible if not sooner

Do not unscrew the crown or place the watch in direct sunlight or on a heat source. Exposing the inside of the watch to air will accelerate the oxidation and corrosion process & eventually causing serious damage to the movement.Don't leave the water more than 1-2 days max or irreversible damage will occur !

Even if the fog disappears and your watch continues to run, do not assume the problem is solved. The moisture will remain inside  the watch & corrosion will continue slowly & eventually this will lead to movement failure and a very $ expensive $ repair bill.

BOTTOM LINE: DON'T IGNORE WATER OR MOISTURE( IN YOUR WATCH). Have your Rolex professionally inspected immediately & moisture removed.

  • WHAT ABOUT SERVICING MY OLDER ROLEX ?

Older Rolex watches from the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s require special attention when it comes to servicing and repairs. Why? Because Rolex no longer supports these movements  , meaning replacement parts are no longer  available directly from the manufacturer ROLEX

So, you may ask: "How do I get my older Rolex serviced?"

The good news is that parts are still available, but they  have to come from existing inventories and independent sources not Rolex.

Fortunately, we have been servicing Rolex watches for over 46 years and have accumulated an extensive inventory of vintage Rolex parts. However, we don't have every part for every watch. When a specific part isn't in our inventory, we must source them through alternate suppliers, and those parts can be $ expensive $ and difficult to find.

I was recently complaining to a ol' watchmaker friend of mine about the price he was asking for a vintage part he was selling me. His response was:"If he doesn't want to pay for the part, he can always make a paperweight out of it." That pretty well says it all

Don't let your vintage Rolex become a paperweight have it professionally serviced regulerly.

( 3-4 YRS ).The longer you wait the more  expensive it will be.

  • CAN I LEAVE A BATTERY IN MY WATCH AFTER IT GOES DEAD ?

It's not unusual for a quartz watch to stop working. In most cases, the battery has simply reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced.

The problem occurs when a watch is left unattended for years (3-4) with a dead battery inside. Over time, the battery will leak corrosive acid, which can spread into the movement dial & hands and cause serious & irreversible damage.

If you don't wear your quartz watch regularly, don't leave it sitting for years with an expired battery. Have the battery replaced or removed rather than allowing it to remain inside the watch indefinitely.

Bottom Line: Never leave a dead or expired battery inside your watch for an extended period of time (3-4 YRS).

If your quartz watch has stopped, bring it to a professional watchmaker for inspection and battery replacement.

  • HOW ARE OUR AFTERMARKET BEZELS & DIALS MADE ?

Our bezels are die struck & precision-machined to Swiss standards for an exact fit. ( + or - .02 ) Bottom line they fit no excuses.  Some suppliers use cast bezels & some use cast in place bezels this is not  quality. A bezel must have a small amount of flex. Cast bezels don't flex they break. Due to the cost of gold we use 14K with VS-2 - SI-1 natural diamonds matched makes/colors.We also offer 18K- VVS bezels on request.

Our diamond dials are made using factory original Rolex dials with the original factory color. Many times we use the customers dial & apply our diamonds(VVS-G Single Cuts) Some suppliers use refinished dials  some supplier use chinese dials & add their diamonds. What you have is totally fake dial.

Quality matters. Ask your current supplier: Are your using  original factory dials (or Chinese) and have your dials been refinished or are they factory original color & are your bezels cast, cast in place or die struck. Make sure you are getting the quality you are supposedly paying for. This is why we ask for an exchange dials.

  • HOW DOES YOUR APPROVAL MEMO PROGRAM WORK ?

SWJ offers a 3 day approval memo program giving you time to evaluate your high value watch before making a final decision.

If the watch doesn't meet your expectations, you can return it—no problem.

Give us a call to learn more about our approval memo program.
